What is Fashionable?

Fashion is fitting into the scene and making one look the best that he or she can look. Fashion is the norm of clothing, cars, homes, and yes, even pets. Fashion is fashionable. What is fashionable though?

Fashions change all the time. There are some constants about fashion though. The outfits should fit appropriately and be flattering. The vehicles should be safe and clean. The homes should be comfortable and personable. The pets should be well cared for. Now that we know the constants, how does one achieve these constant fashions?

Fashionable outfits typically sport the name of a high end designer. This is not necessary though, since in other parts of the world, say the Philippians, fashionable pants include the Levi pant line. This is considered an expensive brand in the United States, but in other parts of the world, it is. Fashionable clothing is clothing that fits well and compliments the body of the wearer. Fashionable clothing does not show too much skin or appear to be too tight. Fashionable clothing does not restrict movement, but rather enables the individual to be as comfortable and natural as possible.

Fashionable cars are much like fashionable clothing. What is expensive in one country is not in the other. In America, the BMW is considered one of the most expensive cars on the market. In Bosnia, everyone drives a BMW and people want the Ford Taurus. How is that for luxury and fashion? A fashionable car is a vehicle with personality and is clean at the same time. There should be plenty of the driver in the car and plenty of car to be seen. Dirty is never fashionable and clutter is much like dirt.

Fashionable homes are sketchy. Everyone wants a home. Homes in themselves are fashionable. A fashionable home is a home that is well put together with general themes for each room. The living room should not have lawn chairs. The dining room should not have a weight bench. The kitchen should not be storage room. Fashionable homes are all about themes and cleanliness.

Fashionable pets are scary. While it can be “fashionable” to have a specific breed, it is far more ‘fashionable” to have a healthy and happy pet. Remember though, pets are for life, not for fashion. Once you get a pet, you are in a till death-do-you-part relationship with that pet. Think before you purchase.

The City Will Witness a Fashion Week With a Purpose, It’s Different This Year

“This is a fashion week with a cause” as declared by Mr. Yudhajit Dutta, organizer of the fashion extravaganza called Kolkata fashion and lifestyle week (KFLW). This year the event will have a different story to tell. The most happening fashion and lifestyle week this year has come up with a unique theme and a purpose. Truly the Kolkata fashion and lifestyle week has been responsible both as a platform for Indian fashion trends to project Kolkata as the next fashion capital of India and as an organization for spreading eco-consciousness amongst people.

Eco fashion theme of Kolkata fashion and lifestyle week
The year 2010 has been recognized as the UN year of biodiversity. The world is facing an urgent urge to save biodiversity and to preserve our ecology from destruction. Kolkata fashion and lifestyle week thus, has decided to redefine fashion with stylized clothing in natural fibers like jute, cotton, silk and bamboo. With natural fabrics and dyes to set the ramp on fire with its beauty and originality, it is speculated that this fashion and lifestyle week will successfully set eco-fashion trends for the future India. The Kolkata fashion week salutes the weavers and weaves of Bengal and celebrates the traditional fabrics worn here. Participating designers at Kolkata fashion and lifestyle week are expected to create marvels out of natural fabrics, fibers and dyes.

This year KFLW will open with the lines of Narendra Kumar created exclusively for the fashion week. The week will showcase JJ Valaya collection at the finale. Prominent fashion designer’s eco-creations including JJ Valaya, Rocky S., Neeta Lulla, Satya Paul, Anita Dongre, Dev r Nil, Rina Dhaka, Abhishek Dutta will adorn the ramp of Kolkata fashion event this year. Kolkata fashion salutes the doyens of both Kolkata and national designers along with promoting fashion industry as a creative canvas for both budding designers and established designers. KFLW also promotes a unique concept of using this event as the stage to raise consciousness through fashion.

Remarkably, in the year 2009, the Kolkata fashion and lifestyle launched their fashion collection with the theme of “earth couture”. The year saw magnificent artwork on clothes with natural fabrics by some of the renowned designers of India. This year again this fashion and lifestyle week is playing with the theme of “eco-fashion”. This is an innovative way for raising eco-consciousness on behalf of the fashion world of Kolkata. Notably, the earlier sessions of KFLW has not been that huge a success. Therefore, the organizers this time are keeping no stone unturned for slip in mistakes or failures. The stage for this year’s fashion and lifestyle week thus seems ready to welcome a refreshing change in the traditional fashion of Bengal with natural fibers and dyes.

The fashionable population of Kolkata is expecting to see an amalgamation of different Indian styles and traditions created out of natural fibers of Bengal. It is now just a matter of time before a new trend is set in Indian fashion. With the hot summers approaching, eco-fashion is an acceptable theme. Thus i hope that people will welcome this new theme with all open heart and we are going to witness a great show this year.

Fashion Advice For Women Abounds in Books and Magazines – Available Free at a Public Library

A trip to the public library may not be our first thought when we want fashion advice for women. Here are some good reasons why the library is a fabulous place to research the latest fashion trends.

The more books about fashion you consult, the more likely you are to realize that your unique style starts with you not what designers trumpet.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Audrey Hepburn, and First Lady Nancy Reagan are known as classy dressers and fashion icons. Yet, as we look at their wardrobe choices over the decades, we see that they updated their fashion style – but did not radically change it.

Body type and face shape will not change much with age. Books with fashion advice for women emphasize creating your look, rather than following the crowd.

Style is about more than wearing the latest fashion. Biographies of fashion icons and designers teach us that glamour and beauty really are an inside job.

Reading about fashion icons introduces us to their lifestyle philosophies. These women not only have fashion style, they have class. Shelly Branch and Sue Callaway report that First Lady Jackie Kennedy used her charm persuasively for donations to refurbish the White House with appropriate antiques. She and second husband Aristotle Onassis famously helped her cousins make livable a dangerously run-down Gray Gardens. She dressed down when she became a book editor, consciously choosing not to flaunt her wealth as she assumed a new role in life. Branch and Callaway share these memorable anecdotes in their entertaining book of much more than fashion advice, What Would Jackie Do?.

The best fashion photography is not available on the Internet.

Absorbing the best fashion photography can be inspiring, unleashing your creativity, as well as offer lessons in fashion cycles. Few of us can afford to purchase these expensive tomes. Take one home and bathe in the visual luxury. By the way, you can find a lot of great books with full-colored photos about home decorating and gardening at your library.

Teach yourself to get creative refurbishing your wardrobe.

Do-it-yourself fashion and craft books abound. The latest fashion may literally be at your fingertips – not at the mall. Get ideas for transforming out-of-style garments into fresh new looks. Crochet or knit yourself a winter muffler and cap. Be more ambitious and tackle a sweater that would cost hundreds of dollars in a specialty store. Add ribbon and buttons to an inexpensive blouse to give it a handmade look. Beading and jewelry-making remain an effective way to create unique accessories. You can even transform old shoes with a glue gun and trim.

Find fashion advice books and magazine articles you cannot get any other way.

Your library will, most likely, be able to order a book that’s not in its collection through InterLibrary Loan (ILL). If you cannot find what you want in the catalog, ask a reference librarian for help.

Articles about the latest fashion and expressing ourselves creatively through style turn up in unusual places. Psychology Today had some articles about fashion and personality in 2008. You can find and read these articles for free on two popular databases that index Psychology Today – EBSCO and ProQuest. A database is an index of articles that have appeared in hundreds of newspapers, magazines, and large-circulation newsletters. The bible of the fashion industry, W for Women’s Wear Daily, may be available if you want to keep up with insider industry trends.

Save money.

Fashion and style magazines and books cost a small fortune. We can glut ourselves on as many as we want at the library, instead of toting home just one guilty pleasure from the magazine rack or bookstore. And think of the money we save by spending a few hours at the library instead of at the mall to scout out the latest fashions. Here are some specific reading suggestions.

In conclusion, the next time you’ve simply got to learn about the latest fashion advice for women, skip shopping and prowl the library. Magazines are designed to persuade us to buy. Fashion books, including fashion advice, basic wardrobe planning, fashion photo collections, and biographies of designers and fashion icons, teach us that the more fashion changes, the more unique, personal fashion style remains the same.

Australian Fashion

The dress you wear, the shoes you run with, and the hats that protect you from the sun not only help you in protecting yourself from the forces of nature; they also serve as your statement of fashion that everyone else has been following as well. People seem to be adaptable to the fact that every time fashion icons wear a different set of clothes, they should wear the articles as well. These fads may wear down and die down like clockwork, but people don’t seem to mind.

Fashion icons all over the world have been busy everyday in assembling different sets of clothes that could make the fashion statement of the day, the week, month or even year. These fads help people in building their confidence and showing other people that they have a taste for these fads and that they are also capable in putting together different pieces of clothing and it would look good. Fashion statements from the US, Europe and Australia are quickly gaining on each other on a race to the top of the fashion world.

Australian Fashion differs from time zone to time zone and climate to climate. Sydney fashion may be different from the fashion in Melbourne. Through the years, Australian Fashion is commonly viewed as the rugged cowboy type of fashion. With the movie Crocodile Dundee, people used to think that it is common for Australian men to wear rugged leather shoes and khakis together with that weird hat of Crocodile Dundee. However, they fail to realize that not every part of Australia is swamps. There happen to be parts where people see the fad as corporate looks such as the ones in Sydney. Sydney fashion through the years are seen as the preppy look; with the business establishments and the virtue of having the Opera House as a tourist spot, people pay attention to their looks to make a good impression on the tourists. Australian fashion statements are more commonly spotted in Sydney; that’s why it’s common to associate Sydney fashion to Australian Fashion.

What’s notable to the fashion statements in Australia is the fact that there are influences in the designs such as the British descent. Since the Australians have undeniable British ties, the fashion through the years has a notable British touch to it; such as the use of hats with coats and the fashionable handbags for women. Also, Australians favor the bow tie rather than the normal tie; also a British preference. Sydney fashion has been undeniably a reflection of the British touch with the women favoring the blazers and slacks; a notable business attire for women in the United Kingdom. And lastly, the favorable response of kids to shorts and leather shoes are a common sight in England.

No matter what the fashion trend is, it can’t be denied that a place’s fashion trend may have influences from their past. However, with the flamboyant fashion trends nowadays, it is uncommon that the influences would wear off. The Sydney fashion’s difference in the future would depend on the flexibility and comfort that the future trends would provide.

Fashion Degrees Are a Popular Trend

The popularity of television shows like Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model has added even more glamour to the fashion industry, and many people are wondering if a fashion career is right for them.

You will also gain valuable exposure to the growing field of computer assisted design (CAD). Fashion merchandising and sales, accounting, business management, business technology and accounting are also studied. Consumer behavior is focused upon, giving you valuable insight into how to appeal to your potential clients.

There are actually two popular Bachelor’s degrees available for those interested in the fashion industry. If you earn a degree in Fashion Design, you’ll be prepared to work in any design house. You can work your way up from the cutting floor to becoming a design assistant. And eventually, you will be a designer in your own right. You may also coordinate and plan fashion shows or become an events coordinator for fashion houses and department store chains.

With a degree in Fashion Merchandising, your focus will be more on the retail and marketing side of the industry. You can become a buyer for a retail store or private label fashion house, traveling around the world to watch fashion shows and choosing which lines they will carry in the coming year. Other options include becoming the merchandising coordinator in a particular store, designing the display of merchandise to its best advantage. Window dressers are also in demand in large cities, where high-end department stores compete for the title of “best dressed window”.

Famous Fashion Designers

Fashion designers use flair and know-how to create everything from hospital uniforms to the eye-popping outfits worn by rock stars and models. Jobs for fashion designers are expected to grow more slowly than the average for all careers through 2014, according to government economists. A study of the work of several other fashion designers records how fashion changed throughout the decade.

Fashion

Fashion design is also a labor of love, requiring long hours and little chance of superstardom — but for many, the work itself is the reward. Fashion designers, in fact, are some of the most creative and eclectic people that you will ever meet. Men’s fashions during the 19th and 20th centuries have been conservative and dull in comparison to women’s. The fashion industry is a big part of our economy. Here is a short list: Chanel Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (1883-1971) created feminine fashion that provided the feeling of luxury and combined traditional women’s clothing with styles, fabrics, and articles of clothing used by men. Her fashion revolution liberated women to express their femininity with elegance and grace.

The Hollywood film “The Devil Wears Prada”, starring Meryl Streep, has brought a lot of attention to the world of fashion. More information about Prada Versace Gianni Versace (1946-1997) became interested in fashion working in his mother’s small dress shop. By 1978 he had become a design leader of women’s and men’s fashions. More information about Giorgio Armani Jean-Paul Gaultier (1952- ) is a French fashion designer who never received formal design training. In 1967 he purchased the Polo label and launched a world-wide fashion empire that includes clothing lines for men and women.

Fashion

The high prices commanded by the fashionable Fendi purses have created a large market for fake goods from Asia bearing logos that are eerily similar to the inverted FF. In 1985, they took part in a fashion show featuring “New Talent”, and the following year, they presented their first independent women’s ready-to-wear show. You’d have to be walking around with a shopping bag over your head to not realize that fashion is everywhere. In order to succeed in the often cutthroat–and frequently debt-ridden–world of fashion, designers can no longer hide behind their model’s skirts.

Most fashion designers, however, work for apparel manufacturers, creating designs of men’s, women’s, and children’s fashions for the mass market. Employment growth for fashion designers will be slowed, however, by declines in the apparel manufacturing industries Designers in most fields are expected to face strong competition for available positions.

Most women of means had a dressmaker who would create garments according to the latest fashions. Instead of catering strictly to a few wealthy clients, coveted fashion designers now create product lines ranging from perfumes to pantyhose that can reach consumers at every price point. “Consumers at the middle and lower level have realized they can get just as good a fashion direction with clothing at disposable prices that they can wear once and throw away–or if it falls apart, who cares.

Fashionable and Stylish

Fashion and style. What are they? Do they always go together? Do they mean one and the same thing? It’s hard to say. According to specialists in the field, fashion is actually a synonym for style or glamour. It has been agreed on the fact that fashion is a way of personal expression, and according to this criteria, one can be fashionable when he/she fits in this expression mode, or unfashionable, which would be the opposite. Fashion has manifestations in all the fields of human activity, that is when can speak about fashion when we refer to topics such as architecture, clothing, music, cosmetics, entertainment, forms of speech or even politics or technology. Anything in these fields can be described as being fashionable or not. When one speaks about materialism or trend s using the term ‘fashion’, it can be associated with a negative meaning.

Most people today perceive fashion as a term referring mostly to clothes. The beginnings of what we call fashion today did actually refer to clothes and they go back as far as the sixteenth century. However, it was only two centuries later that the real manifestations of fashion took place and it happened in Europe, among the wealthy upper classes. Fashion, just like any other manifestation of human activity, underwent major and continual changes, to the point where it is today, that is, being related to many fields of activities.
Of course, it would be unjustified to assume that fashion is the same all over the world. First of all, fashion differs from one society to another. Then, within a certain society, there are a lot of factors which may influence fashion such as age or generation, social class, profession or occupation. Even the geography of certain regions may bring about differences in fashion among the people of the same society.

But how does fashion change? Because we all know that constant change is what fashion is actually about. Everyone will agree that what is new now will soon become old, and the process goes both ways, that I what was once into fashion but is now considered to be old and obsolete will soon turn into something new again. Capitalism has brought along with its numerous good aspects some less appealing ones, such as waste. People buy things which are not necessary to them and consequently speed up the process of change as far as fashion is concerned. Young generations have much to do with this change in fashion as well, because they are always eager and willing to try interesting things, things that they haven’t experienced before, something new to be more precise.

What made fashion so popular among people was actually the television. The moment fashion hit television, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was the moment when the general population became interested in this aspect. And fashion magazines, websites or even fashion blogs were only one step away.

Pretty much in the same way as fashion, style can refer to may things, from painting, music, literature, web design to linguistics or manners of addressing people. The very definition of style describes the term as a fashionable manner of doing things, which points out that style and fashion are very closely related. Not everything that is considered fashionable will also be regarded as stylish, which is why people should avoid turning into a fashion victim, one of those persons who will wear just about anything that’s seen as fashionable, no matter if it suits them or not, from hairstyles and piercing to clothes. It is true that today’s world and the society we live in have set some rules in what fashion and style are concerned, but these don’t always have to be strictly followed. Being a fashion victim will only turn you into one of the rest. If you want to be ahead at all times, what you must try is to define your own style and that will make you look your best.

To-Be Fashion Trends

At the end of past century and of course in the dawn of new millennium, the “HAPPENIING”, with substantial enthusiasm and lasting long in “FUTURE” were the key influencing factors in the fashion Industry. People wish to live in present – No looking back. The reality was significant, as the world changed so rapidly, resulting in huge developments, making people to expect more n more from the present and the emerging economy.

Today, the world has completely different future, since forecasted. After years of negligence the history again emerged with wider acceptance. People again started appreciating the core values, old traditions, ceremonies and hold them as a treasure for us. They look back to the past, searching for our origins, something significant to have. All this affected our lives, our preferences and our selections to reposition ourselves. This is also happens in fashion too.

Old Fashion – Back In Rhythm
People are thriving to get equilibrium point in a wavering world. Here, history is only our inspiration. The fashion industry is surged with look-alikes that were present in the market even before the originals, which empowers to a few designers. It is time mull over the situation, as the fashion industry paused instead moving ahead in creating new innovation. It is going diving deeper into the past to bring out contemporary version than the fast trends and buildups. Alike politics, ideology for ethics, values, regulation, category and style is apparently noticeable in fashion industry too.

Bouncing Back of Historic Echoes – Repeating History
History rolls out our own tradition. In fashion industry, the journey starts from ancient Europe. People value and re-organize treasures, diving deep into the times of past European clothing fashions till great designs of embroideries and laces of great grand mothers. People are witnessing the coming back of old fashion and retro-trends.

Class Fashion
Attraction, high-class and stylishness are keys for to-be trends. Designers inspired from the old members of the aristocracy, at present it is the high society. The sophisticated lady is now dressing like a queen, princess or an empress. The present high class is circumspect and less lavish, in contrast to the show-off fashion trends.

Classic styles
Due to change in preferences, all the inspiration sources (like Couture classics, British classics, and masculine weaving classics), are embedded with elegance, turn into feminine fashion.

Styles from pioneers and plains
The journey of historic fashion crosses all borders of the different countries, fashion from Britain, France, Russia etc… to the country life, gypsy and folk fashion styles. People can find the routes of fashion inspiration from the initial European emigrants to the America.

Ethnic Styles
The influence of Eastern countries over fashion industry is declining; however, their economy is becoming a real competitive dilemma to the Western World. Albeit, there is considerable cultural influence of African Muslim countries with their exotic jewelry and embroidery designs.

It is confusing that nothing is clear for future. People would only witness influence of above all…

Natural Preference
After a long time with extreme elegance, glitter, shine, mad design, print and pattern mixes, people are moving towards natural harmony. The originals from the Mother Nature, natural textures and shining, the zigzag, allure us. Now, people want to go for endurance and quality of a fabric, the luxury, and the exotic designs.

People are tired of fast fashion trends and the hip hops, now they wish long lasting and timeless comfortable clothing fashions. Keeping distance from ‘low cost’ clothing, with appearance unveiling high standard of living. People desire all these extravagances for low price.

Conclusion
People will prefer smart and stunning matches, which are the major keys for fashion blends for various motives, materials, and prints all in single outfit. At haphazard mixing, mix-and-match fashion, blended patch works and intense style odds are talk of past.

Evolving Fashion Trends – Then and Now

Well Isn’t it quite an understatement if one thinks that fashion in India has come of age and in the last few decades, there has been a complete shift of thought as to how fashion was perceived to be and how the recent trends has transformed Indian Fashion into a global brand.

India being a country with an age old legacy of clothing & known for producing some of the best intricate creations in the world, yet seems to have a long way to go

How it All Began-

Over the years, popular Bollywood trends have been dominating the fashion scene from Madhubala’s Anarkali-look with kurtas and churidars in Mughal-e-Azam (1960),to the purple embroidered sari worn by Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. Thus, by taking a cue form history and passing on the rich & royal flavour onto the costumes designed for movies or social events has facilitated Indian designers and Indian clothes to make its mark all over the world.

The Birth of Changing Fashion-

Moreover, it was not until the birth of the 80s which was the period when the first generation of Indian fashion designers started to emerge including Satya Paul. Research shows that the designs and ensembles from some of the world’s most talented designers, proves that- some of these “new” trends are simply a part of the Retro-culture which brings back yesteryears fashion into the present times.

The “Feminine Factor” – Biggest influence on evolving Fashion-

Fashion is & always been women centric, no doubt whenever a woman is dressed in a traditional “Saree” it makes her look sensuous and beautiful. Naturally this explains the great extent to which Indian woman have been the centre of attraction to all things that is about fashion & social change.Today the ‘Saree’ is no more the staple dress for women that it was once upon a time and even women in their 30s today find it not so practical in wearing the Saree as they are not used to it. No wonder in offices of an emerging India “saree day” is celebrated as a special day. Thus, some of these “new” trends as regards saree aka modern day “Lehenga” apt for a Cosmo culture simply reminds one of a by gone era.

Fashion! Now & Then-

Thus, from the above, it is evident that the influence of western culture on fashion specially concerning the youth, can be seen in today’s outfits which is trying to find a balance between the original & traditional types, which again proves the mixing of the old & the new. So, what was once worn as part of daily life and was common clothing seems to have now become somewhat of a social get together clothing. Moreover, the earliest signs of the coming together of western fashion & Indian dressing was witnessed when Government of India opened the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi with the help of the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York

This was a paradigm shift for the Indian fashion industry since now there was a formal recognition of the new forms of traditional styles influenced by western culture that has in effect generated a lot many new fashion ideas & concepts & other interesting fashionable accessories for women.

Therefore, New ways of draping the Saree came about to be known & now a day pairing it up with a fusion wear such as dhoti pants have been the new trend which in now being promoted by fashion houses among the uber crowd. What was once plain Salwar suits has now become Anarkali salwar kameez suits worn by many young women which make them look elegant and allows them to opt for vivid colours and bohemian designs.

Well, it’s all coming back, fashion is throwing back the ‘retro charm pendants’ from the ’90s, ‘baggy pants’ from the ’70s and even ‘long flashy sleeves’ that can be traced back to the 18th century. With so much happening we simply seem to be spoilt for choice, because change is good & everyone wants to move over from the old & to the new.

Thus, Crop tops, shoulder pads and even fanny packs are seeing a comeback. Also, a brisk suit with intact shoulders was a huge-trend among women in business in the ’80s & has now become a corporate wear for many working women. And again, Yoga pants, leggings and tight crop tops have now become a common trend, I suppose the credit goes to their sportive appeal.

Thus, the new idea of tradition is not to succumb to yesteryear philosophies which got handed down from one generation to the other. Rather the new idea of ethnic style is to befriend the philosophies of a bygone era & use them in relation to the contemporary sense and mood of today’s fashion.

Finally, once can safely conclude that “Changing Fashion is a law of change itself.”
